I've been doing rescue for a little over a decade. This past March 2023 we decided to register as a not for profit charity focussing on Senior and abandoned cats. There is an overwhelming need for help with senior cats who often have elderly owners who become sick or pass away leaving their pets requiring help.
We work hard to help as many cats as we can. We focus on mainly seniors and palliative cats who have lost their owners.
We are always looking for long term foster homes where our senior cats can spend their remaining days before crossing the rainbow bridge.
Nikki or Nicole has always loved cats.
Our family always had animals. My love for cats really came about after heartbreak. I met my husband in 2006 and when we officially started dating we adopted a male cat (Max). A year later we adopted another cat (Mya). At 4 years old Mya suddenly had a stroke and couldn’t move. We rushed to emerge and after trying everything we had to say goodbye. Losing Mya broke my heart and I struggled to move forward.
One day I was quietly on social media and saw a post from a rescuer who had posted about a cat who was found on the street in bad condition. I had no idea cats were abandoned, with my love for Mya and my own animals I could never imagine anyone feeling different. Boy was I wrong. I dove into rescue to try to help cats who ended up at animal services and were facing euthanasia. Since then I’ve fostered for various Rescues, fundraised for many dog and cat rescues, and helped many cats find a safe place with me. I especially fell in love with senior cats and feral cats. I soon realized I was never going to not rescue animals so it was inevitable and my destiny to start my own rescue/ sanctuary in 2023!
This is when Before the Bridge was born.
